It’s been confirmed that the comedian just signed a $40 million deal with Netflix. Wait, let us share that number again … $40 million. Rock signed a deal with the multinational entertainment company to produce two stand-up specials — $20 million per special.
Chris will start taping in 2017, but it’s unclear if the special will air before starting production on special No. 2.
“Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent.”
This will be the first comedic return of the Emmy Award-winner in eight years and the first departure from HBO, which he’s worked with for 20 years.
Rock has yet to respond to the new venture.
