INTRO: South African comedian and entertainer Kedibone Mulaudzi share with us about some of the albums and songs that shaped his life from childhood to date.
ALBUM THAT REMINDS ME OF MY EARLY CHILDHOOD:
Bad Boys 1 Soundtrack
First biggest movie I watched. I have always loved comedy and that movie made sense because they had two funny characters Will Smith an also Martin Lawrence who is a comedian. Post the movie I found myself watching Martin Lawrence on Def Comedy Jam. And the soundtrack had amazing Hip Hop Tracks that resonated with me. Biggie, Junior Mafia, Moniffa etc. the songs on the track are classic today.
ALBUM THAT NEVER GETS BORING:
Chronic Dr Dre
This was Dre at his best. The production of all tracks is timeless. The guest artists on the album are sick with one of them being The legendary Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg. This album was Dre trying to prove a point that He is bigger than Ruthless Records and NWA and he did juts that
BEST KWAITO ALBUM OF ALL TIME:
Mashamplani
Here you had the 3 biggest minds of Kwaito at the times. Mdu Masilela, Tokollo and Sbu Malawyer and some other Random guy who nobody knew his name. The mystery guy was the other guy. The songs in the album are times less “Hey Kop” being an example. I would buy the album again because I lost my cassette.
ALBUM THAT REMINDS YOU OF YOUR DAYS IN COLLEGE OR VASITY:
Wu Tang Clan Forever
Baggy Pants was the in thing and writing lyrics and memorizing them was order of the order. I was in Wits doing Accounting/ I know I know. I eventually dropped out ๐๐๐ All the songs in there were the soundtrack of my life. Riza, Raekwon, Old Dirty Bustard etc all the members of Wu Tang Clan were my idols.
THE ALBUM I PLAY BEFORE & AFTER YOUR STAND UP COMEDY SHOW:
Snoop Dogg – Doggy Style
The songs here are classics and they resonate with both the young and the old. And when you press play the audience pauses and listens because Tr music is old yet modern because Dr Dre was behind it. This album unleashed Snoop to legendary status
ALBUM THAT’S GUARANTEED TO LIFT MY MOOD:
Joyous Celebration
There is something about Joyous Celebration that calms you down. The music talks to your soul and tells you everything will be okay juts keep pushing.
THE ALBUM THAT HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON ME:
Soundtrack for A Low Down Dirty Shame
This was my first meeting with Hip Hop and a movie made by black producers (The Wayans Brothers). Hip Hop tells stories and so does what I do today. As a comedian I tell stories and I am good at that. On the way to a show I listen to other artists telling stories. The movies was made by black people that taught me that as a black entrepreneur o can build and own an empire and that’s what I am doing today.
BEST ALBUM TO PLAY ON FRIDAY NIGHT:
Kanye’s -Albums before Yeezus
Graduations and College Drop out are some of the biggest Hip Hop productions of all times. Its wall to wall hits that gets you respect from your peers and the groupies. Kanye is an artist and only the few will get him. The albums get you in the mood on Friday and any night.
ALBUM I WISH IโD MADE:
Motswako Originator Khuli Chana
Khuli solidified Motswako as an entrepreneur to stay in the Music world. Like wow, I think it took him 3 years to make the album and it showed because all the songs in there are still hits. He grew out it Merafe with this album and today he is doing even bigger things.
ALBUM THAT I PLAY IN THE MORNING OR YOUR GET UP & GO ALBUM:
Ricky Ross Deeper than Rap
Ricky and DJ Khaled worked very hard in this album because they wanted to show that Ricky has more staying power that 50Cent and that’s what they did. I love this album.
THE ALBUM USED TO PLAY DURING MY EARLY DAYS IN YOUR COMEDY CAREER:
Jay Z and Linkinpark – Collision Course
I am a big fan of both artist and RIP to LinkinPark’s lead singer, and to see them takings their hits and mashing them together was mind blowing. I used to go to gigs with this CD and insists the sound person plays one of the songs before and after my performance.
ALBUM THAT SHAPED YOU AS A MAN:
The HipHop Genre Shaped Me. Dre, Snoop, Kanye, Jay Z, Korrupt, Cash Money Crew etc
Hip Hop Tells stories and the career I chose after falling in love with comedy did the same thing. I am now telling stories through comedy.
ALBUM THAT YOU THINK SHOULD BE RE-RELEASED:
Tuks Senganga – Mafoko Ame
Oohh man Mafoko Ame was the ish. All the songs were certified hits. And As we were enjoying the album Tuks signed a deal with Gallo and they forced him to prematurely release an album of which he did and that killed the Momentum of Mafoko Ame. The album made him and no one remembers what he did after it.
THE ALBUM THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE:
Joe Thomas – All that I am.
Joe Thomas was the other R Kelly. I loved the song called Religious Love. I played it for some girl in my village and as she was about to fall for me I had to leave for Wits University and the guy that was also chasing her, got the girl. He probably played her Solly Moholo.
