Serena Williams winning her record-setting 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open on Saturday naturally inspired a gift from Michael Jordan, the man who put No. 23 on the map until the end of time.
After beating her sister in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) the unstoppable machine who is somehow 35-years-old but showing no signs of slowing down, received a special present from MJ that was delivered to the ESPN panel during her post-match interview:
In the box were two pair of sneakers — one in signature Jordan colors, the other in pink and black — along with a letter from the living legend, which read as follows:
“Winning is hard. It takes years of hard work, mental toughness and a willingness to accept the fact that you hate to lose. Congratulations with much respect on winning No. 23. It will be a privilege to keep watching your determination on the court. Your friend, Michael Jordan.”
