We received an emails from some of our super fans, asking about ‘The Pure Monate Show’ former actors or characters’ whereabouts and what are they currently busy with and so forth. We took the questions upon ourselves and we went out to investigate.
Here are the findings below:)
Context: One has to mention PMS Show was one of the groundbreaking sketch comedy show ever produced in the African continent. It also gave many comedians a breakthrough in the show business and some of those comics still telling the tale till this day. That’s how the show it was, it build careers of comedians that we consider LEGENDS of the game today such as David Kau, Kasigo Lediga, Loyiso Gola, Joey Rasdien and Riaad Moosa to mention a few. We will go into details in the next paragraph.
1st Facts about Pure Monate Show
The Pure Monate Show – sometimes said to be South Africa’s Monty Python, was a sketched-based comedy filmed mostly in Johannesburg, South Africa. During the second season of the show, the small writing team produced over 600 minutes of script time in just over three weeks, writing in as many as four different languages. The production team filmed and edited two episodes per week for the duration of the shoot. Pressure and time constraints impacted on the consistency of the overall show, but it still received a huge following in South Africa’s townships, where it was seen as one of the first representative voices of local youth in comedy entertainment.
Here are the comedians or characters that appeared on the PMS Show and some of they’re current gigs we know and I must say they could be more. Kindly bear in mind and note that some of the comedians have a long resume while some have thin ones, hey there’s no competition here its all about growing comedy industry.
In no particular order here they are:
Kagiso Lediga – besides being one of the founders of the PMS show, KG has kept his fingers on the pulse of South African comedy and storytelling. He has produced some of the exciting projects such as The Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola, BlitzPatrol, The Bantu Hour, Chester Missing Late Show, Catching Feelings and the recent one Queen Sono both are currently showing on the streaming giant Netflix. Some people consider Lediga, the hardest working man in show business and that’s true.
David Kibuuka – is the writer and producer on The Daily Show and Podcast co-host with Trevor Noah on Luminary podcast network. I still don’t understand why the brother is not featured on the Daily show, boy Dave is the baddest political reporter I have ever seen doing comedic political reporting. He was one of the reasons for me to watch the Late Nite News. Trevor come on man, let Dave do political reporting on your show.
Riaad Moosa – Dr Mossa left his medical profession to focus on being a full-time stand-up comedian and his currently producing a movie that will come later hopefully this year.
David Kau – is the founder and longtime host of the Blacks Only, the show has been running almost two decades. Dave also produces Kau’s House on his YouTube Channel.
Loyiso Gola – full-time comedian and former host of The Late Nite News. He’s currently building his comedy career in the United Kingdom.
Chris Forrest – full-time stand-up comedian and current his of Quiz Show on Facebook Watch.
Joey Rasdien – the full-time comedian.
Ronnie Modimole – part-time comedian.
Tshepo Mogale – chef and part-time comedian.
