Coronavirus pandemic is hurting comedians and comedy promoters where it hurts most, which is the pockets and their bank accounts. This comes after several countries including South Africa, whereby a law has been introduced that a certain number of people should not gather or congregate to halt the spread of the Coronavirus and to lower the infection rate.
This comes after the virus has dome a lot of damage and havoc across the world, whereby people are dying like flies due to this pandemic. In South Africa, we have seen several comedy clubs and comedy events postponed while some are being cancelled because this horrific disease, some of those clubs include Mellvile Comedy Club, Parkers Comedy & Jive, Monte Casino, David Kau’s Blacks Only, Samoka and our very own, NoJokesComedy events. We all don’t know when we will be back to business however, we monitoring the situation as advised by the government and United Nations Health Organisation.
The cancellation of events is not only happening here at home, but it is also happening across the globe, last week we saw Trevor Noah on the Daily Show announcing that from now on his show will be recorded without an audience and he even went to an extent of postponing his comedy show; the same applies for Allen DeGeneres show. Comedy super fans are also feeling the pinch, they miss attending comedy shows and going out to watch some of their favourite comedians or networking with their like-minded individuals.
Let’s be honest the virus is causing more panic locally and internationally, one can only hope and pray to almighty God to change the whole situation so that things can get back to normal, unfortunately as comedy connoisseur or super fans we must accept the new normal… and yes is no longer as business as usual.
