Starting out in the industry at the age of 13, Nina Hastie has carved a formidable career as one of South Africa’s favorite comedians. The presenter on late night talk show ‘Trending SA’ on SABC 3, has a decade of stand-up comedy experience and has even presented a show in London.
She recently sold out a solo show at the Goliath Comedy Club in Johannesburg.
Hastie joined Azania Mosaka in studio for this week’s Friday Profile. She shares more on what has influenced her successes and how the industry has evolved over the years.
People don’t realise the 20 year overnight success story. Also, the entertainment industry as it is right now is so diverse and rich and nuanced and there are places where you can take up a space and be a specialist in the space, that is a privilege we didn’t have many years before.— Nina Hastie, Stand-up comedian
Hastie will be part of The Comedy Central Roast of AKA which is set to take place at Monte Casino on 21 February and will be broadcast in March.
While she’ take jabs at the hip-hop star, she will also be roasted herself.
The thing is, there is obviously a lot of thought. There are comedians working together on this panel and structuring a lot of this stuff and there is research that people do on you.— Nina Hastie, Stand-up comedian
