Trevor Noah just keeps making the local headlines for the absolute best reasons. The proudly South African comedian and Daily Show host has won his first Emmy award this weekend in Los Angeles.
The Emmys held their Creative Arts ceremony ahead of their main show in the next week. Noah and his team took home the price for the YouTube comedy special, The Daily Show: Between the Scenes.
The special took home the Emmy for Best Short Form Variety Series, they beat out other show segments like Behind the Voice, Epic Rap Battles of History, Honest Trailers and The Star Wars Show. Noah was in Washington DC performing at his stand up show and was unable to attend the ceremony to receive the award. After missing out on a nomination for the Best Variety Talk Series category, Noah and his team will still go to the main ceremony knowing they have an Emmy win in the bag.
Other winners on the night included veteran rapper Common, who won for his song Letter to the Free from his documentary film “13th”.
The main show is set to take place this coming weekend and will be hosted by Late Night host Stephen Colbert. The Emmys look to recognise the best achievements in non-fiction , variety, reality, and animation on US TV.
