Forbes recently came out with its list of the highest-paid comedians of 2017. Jerry Seinfeld regained top spot with earnings of $69 million (R916,2 million).
Before Hart took the top spot in 2016, Seinfeld had held the title for the highest-paid comedian in the world for almost 10 years. The revenue stream that pushed him right back to the top comes from the deal he signed with streaming platform Netflix, which is reportedly in the tens of million of dollars. Seinfeld also got a developmental deal and bought the library of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
Second on the list is Chris Rock, with earnings amounting to $57 million (R746,89 million); Rock hasn’t appeared on the highest-paid celebrities list in almost 10 years. His record-breaking deal with Netflix has pushed him up the list.
Rock signed the same deal with Netflix as Seinfeld and will be doing two stand-up specials for the online streaming service, which paid him $20 million (R265,57 million) for each show. His other big revenue stream is the Total Blackout Tour.
According to Forbes, Hart is set to launch a streaming platform called Laugh Out Loud and this could see him regaining his top spot in 2018.
“In order to create our list of the world’s highest-paid comedians, we evaluate touring numbers from Pollstar and perform independent research on outside television and film projects, business ventures and endorsement deals,” Forbes wrote.
