It’s “Comedy Groundbreakers Week!” All week, Steve is sitting down with some of your favorite iconic comedians from the world of stand-up and he’s kicking off the week in a huge, meaningful way. Steve’s co-stars from the 2000 film “The Original Kings of Comedy,” CEDRIC THE ENTERTAINER and D.L. HUGHLEY, will reunite for the first time in eight years! The last time they were all together was at the funeral for the late, great Bernie Mac.
You won’t want to miss this reunion, as the Kings take questions from the audience, reveal their favorite moments, reminisce over their hilarious backstage antics, talk about how the tour and movie helped their careers and take a sentimental look back at their brotherhood with each other. As a surprise to the Kings, they will take a question from a man named “Darvin” in the audience, only to find out that it’s actually “Boogie” from the original film! “Boogie” was featured in an iconic scene in the film, where Steve Harvey pokes fun of him and tries on his leather coat after “Boogie” leaves to use the restroom. GUY TORRY, who was the original host and MC of the comedy tour, joins the on-stage reunion with a look back at the valuable lessons he learned from being around the Kings of Comedy.
Plus, Bernie Mac’s family, including his wife RHONDA McCULLOUGH GILMORE, his daughter JE’NEICE McCULLOUGH and Bernie’s granddaughter JASMINE stop by to talk about the Bernie Mac Foundation, set up in Bernie’s memory to combat the disease that attacked his lungs and eventually took his life, Sarcoidosis. Another legendary comedian, MIKE EPPS, joins the conversation via satellite, live from Bernie and Rhonda’s alma mater, the Chicago Vocational High School on the Southside of Chicago. As a surprise to Bernie’s family, Mike Epps and the principal of the school will reveal that the auditorium will be renamed in Bernie’s honor.
And, since Bernie was a Chicagoan through and through, Steve will reveal that Mayor Rahm Emanuel proclaimed today, November 14, as “Bernie Mac Day” in Chicago!
