The teams at Todd Snyder and New Balance have come together once more to offer up a new collaborative riff on the 998. And this latest version, which marks the fourth time the companies have worked together, is all about color. Done up in a “Sunset Pink” colorway, the sneakers feature a big shot of color on the mid-foot and heel, balanced by shades and gray and black throughout.
The colorway was inspired by the sunset in Palm Springs, a favorite spot for Snyder as well as the location of his most recent campaign shoot. But it’s not just about the personal angle here. Dusty pinks in a range of intensities have been making their way through the menswear and streetwear worlds for a while now. The way Snyder sees it, the fact that the rise of this kind of hue coincides with a trend towards the casual is no accident.
“In traditional menswear, a dose of unexpected color makes for a really dapper, unique look,” Synder said in a statement. “A bright sneaker like the NB1 Sunset Pink can function as the modern equivalent of a pocket square or tie—an unexpected counterpoint that brings it all together.”
If you’re in the market for some new shoes, don’t hesitate. There are only 300 pairs of these out there, and once they’re gone, they’re gone for good. Happy hunting.
