‘Last Week Tonight’ Renewed Through 2023 on HBO. The channel (HBO) and John Oliver are extending their long-term relationship. The premium cable outlet has renewed Last Week Tonight With John Oliver for three more seasons. The pickup comes as the show was nearing the end of its previous long-term renewal, which lasts through the end of the current season.
The new agreement will keep Last Week Tonight running through a 10th season in 2023. The weekly series aired its 200th episode in August.
“We’re all extremely happy to be able to continue to do our show on HBO for another three years, or until the end of the world, whichever comes first,” said Oliver.
Said HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys, “For the past seven years, John and his incredibly talented team have taken on topics that are both in the public mind and off the beaten path, always managing to shed new light on these subjects with intelligence and searing humor. We are beyond thrilled to continue this relationship for three more years.”
Last Week Tonight has won the Emmy Award for outstanding variety talk series for four consecutive years and will try to make it five in a row at Sunday’s ceremony. The show has won 16 Emmys overall since premiering 2014.
Avalon and Sixteen String Jack Productions produce Last Week Tonight. Executive producers are Oliver, Tim Carvell, Liz Stanton, Jon Thoday and James Taylor; Paul Pennolino directs.
Oliver is repped by WME and and attorney Leigh Brecheen at Brecheen Feldman.
