Trevor Noah’s Day Zero Productions and Comedy Central Studios are producing the series, which will see him going head-to-head with some of the biggest names in the gaming world. After all, Noah claims to be the best non-professional FIFA player on the planet. The Daily Show show host will put his self-professed gaming skills to the test in Player vs. Player with Trevor Noah, a series he’ll host for the nascent short-form digital service.
The series will spotlight the late-night talker host’s skills against players ranging from true esports pros to celebs with a stake in esports teams to top Twitch streamers — battling within different known titles on various consoles. And expect no shortage of competitive banter between Noah and his prospective rivals.
Noah prides himself on being one of the world’s best amateur FIFA Soccer players, a claim that may (or may not) be put to the test during the course of Player vs. Player.
The streaming service Quibi is yet to announce a launch date for the new series. The short-form digital service was founded by ex-Disney chairman and DreamWorks Animation co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, the streaming service launched in April 2020 with 50 original shows optimised for mobile devices, adding to that number over the following months.
The Quibi app is available for download in SA on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. After a 14-day free trial, viewers will need to pay a monthly R129.99 subscription fee.
Noah is coming off back-to-back Emmy noms for Outstanding Variety Talk Series as the TV Academy preps for this year’s nominations later this month. Since March he was been hosting a coronavirus-mandated virtual edition of this nightly talked known as The Daily Social Distancing Show.
