Many theatre and comedy fans have marvelled at the sheer madness of Mark
Banks. His ability to hold them in the palm of his hand and treat them to a
glimpse of his delightful madness is something to see. Now the maestro of
mayhem changes gear and brings his fans a whole new experience. “Stark
Raving Mark” takes the audience right into his world, drawing on real-life
experiences to enthrall and entertain.
Stripped down, so there are no wigs, no outfits and no scene changes. Just a
black t-shirt and the naked honesty of the consummate comedian have the
makings of an evening never to be forgotten.
“I stalked Mark Banks since I first went to a show 30 years ago. He is the
original comedy anarchist. He is as brilliant as he is unpredictable,” says
producer, John Vlismas. “I memorised his material, followed him from theatre
to theatre and tried for years to meet him. It wasn’t easy, but I kept at it. Now,
I am privileged to work with him on a show that literally peels back the mask
and shows audiences some of the events that have really happened and that
fuel his comedy.
“Stark Raving Mark” is an audience with a great satirist. It allows the
theatregoer a peek at the private life of this remarkable comedy mind. With a
cast of real people – from John Cleese to David Bowie, from the train driver to
the lady who deserved the dog pooh in her mailbox.
“In an era where great theatre doesn’t come along everyday, “Stark Raving
Mark” is a great blend of stand-up, sketch and story. Mark is a raconteur of
note, and this a wonderful chance to watch him in an intimate setting,” says
manager Taffia Keight.
