Corporate South Africa is making major strides towards, as we see a number of brands embrace our local comedy talent in all shapes and sizes. Hopefully this comics are smiling all over to the bank to cash those checks. Without mentioning names, lately we see a number of comedians celebrating and sharing their sponsorship endorsement deals with the world on their Instagram pages.
What’s stand out for me, corporate SA also support local comedy through corporate bookings, most importantly during festive seasons and Easter weekend. However I wish they could book this comedians through out the year instead of comedians waiting for festive seasons or Easter weekend, that will do a great deal to our local comedy talent.
Last year we saw two comedians Mashabela Galane and Donovan Goliath sign exclusive deals. Don partnered with sneaker brand New Balance while Mashabela his with Hyundai Polokwane. I don’t know how much both deals worth, be as it may it’s a positive signs that brands are taking notice of local comedy talent. Not forgetting comic legend David Kau and Skhumba Hlophe, both are with Chevrolet SA and Skhumba’s comedy segment on Kaya fm is sponsored by Standard Bank.
Recently, Tumi Morake the 1st lady of South African comedy just concluded a sponsorship deal with British motor company Jaguar Land Rover, Menlyn Pretoria. She will be cruising around in the latest SUV Jaguar, please say hello in case you see her around Johannesburg street. The Mangaung comedian shared the news of her social media sites.
Is good to see local companies who put local comedy as part of their strategy to help their staff members to loosen up and to lighten up the mood in the room. Companies that use comedy include internet giant Google, Twitter, Red Bull and German engineering firm Siemens – just to mention a few.
Do you think Corporate SA is doing enough or more still needs to be done?
