The first podcast to result from the first-look deal is a scripted comedy starring Zoey Deutch.
Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco has inked a first-look audio development and production deal with Audible.
The pact encompasses scripted and unscripted projects and will also include non-fiction documentaries. Kicking off the multi-project relationship is scripted comedy podcast A Total Switch Show, which will star Zoey Deutch and her mother, Lea Thompson. Future projects will span scripted and unscripted
“We know the Team Coco brand of humor will shine in the series we are creating with them, and we can’t wait for Audible audiences to get to hear them,” Team Coco COO Adam Sachs said in a statement.
Rachel Ghiazza, head of U.S. content at Audible, added, “We have so much to look forward to with this remarkable team as they bring hilarious entertainment to the Audible content pipeline, including A Total Switch Show, which is a comedic romp performed by extraordinarily talented artists that we know will have our members laughing.”
In A Total Switch Show, Deutch and Thompson will star as a mother and daughter who switch bodies but find that no amount of lesson learning will help them switch back. The project also stars Bradley Whitford, Bobby Moynihan and Giancarlo Esposito. It is being written by a team of The Onion veterans led by head writer Matt Powers. Gail Mancuso (Modern Family, 30 Rock) is directing and Gavin Polone is executive producing.
It is expected to debut May 6, 2021, for subscribers to the Amazon-owned company’s Audible Plus service.
A Total Switch Show builds on a growing slate of original podcast producing at Audible, which began as an audiobook seller but has expanded into other forms of sound-only entertainment as the medium has exploded in recent years. Other Audible originals include Heads Will Roll starring Kate McKinnon and Emily Lynne and Escape from Virtual Island starring Paul Rudd, Amber Ruffin and Jack McBrayer.
The Team Coco deal follows the August announcement that Audible was revamping its subscription lineup and offering lower priced Audible Plus for all-you-can-listen access to both original and third-party podcast programming. The $8-per-month offering has a catalog of more than 68,000 hours of content and serves as a companion to the $15-per-month Audible Premium Plus, which offers access to the full Audible library of audiobooks and other programming.
