Savanna Premium Cider launched its #SavannaVirtualComedyBar on Thursday 9 April in its continued support for the South African comedy industry during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Over the next few months paid comedians will take to a virtual stage to showcase their talent to South Africans. The #SavannaVirtualComedyBar will consist of the weekly Bar Nights and bi-weekly Comedy Specials.
Azania Mosaka of 702 spoke to stand-up comedian Nik Rabinowitz to find out more.
“Obviously a lot of people have lost a lot of jobs, so it is providing people with some income and an opportunity to do what we love doing and for audiences to experiences some relief.” — Nik Rabinowitz, Stand-up comedian
“It is not stand up comedy in the traditional sense. If you are familiar with game shows, panel shows….it is three comedians really having a conversation with one another, we have got some interesting technology and a lot of improvisation that is going to happen. It is an experiment, we will see how it goes.” — Nik Rabinowitz, Stand-up comedian.
