The new and exciting funny man Chomi Ya Jeso has been leaving audiences with sore jaws and ribs through his unique style of comedy inspired by his Zion Christian Church (ZCC) character and humour.
Chomi Ya Jeso, real name James Mahlokwane, is finally receiving the love and recognition he deserves from promoters and managers and owners of clubs that host comedy events.
Being a journalist, he had no interest to be published by the media until his media colleagues forced him show South Africa his unique talent.
“I am used to being the one writing about other people and not the other way around. That’s why I called myself Chomi Ya Jeso. I thought James Mahlokwane is a very serious news man who once came second place for most promising journalists at Caxton Media. James won several monthly prizes before joining Independent Media to write for daily publications likes Pretoria News, The Star and the likes,” he said.
Chomi Ya Jeso currently has video trending on social media platforms where he jokingly encourages people not to die this Festive Season. One of the videos was played on Metro FM, setting the country on fire with laughter. They are shared in South African prisons and have reached Botswana and Lesotho.
He tells views that people did not budget for funerals but clothes and parties, and anyone who dies will be ignored and buried next year in July.
His twisted humour made South Africans laugh when he said if anyone died in January, he would go to the mortuary and beat whip them himself. It may sound wrong in text but his personality makes it extremely funny.
Although he performs predominantly in vernacular languages, Chomi Ya Jeso also makes people laugh in English when he does private and corporate gigs.
He said coming up he used to make comedy hosts laugh from the moment he introduced himself because his tage name means “Friend of Christ”.
“I didn’t want to go on stage as James Mahlokwane so I chose Chomi Ya Jeso. I think I head that James was a friend of Jesus, if not his brother. When I start performing I catch people by surprise with my content because they don’t expect me to say the things I say,” he said laughing.
He said he is currently overwhelmed by the laugh South Africans have showed him. His latest video was published by leading social media personalities like Twitter’s Daniel Marven and Instagram’s Innluu.
“I have received calls from people and their parents who were dying from laughter. A lot of people are hungry to see me on stage. I always knew that I take comedy to extreme levels and that’s why I don’t just post any video I make. It has to be funny enough or it gets the boot.”
Chomi Ya Jeso is exciting from the moment he steps on stage because he dances like an old man while wearing a work-suit. He starts speaking about his long awaited arrival and the audience lights up from the confidence he exudes.
