US based South African comedian Trevor Noah just received his first NAACP Image Award nomination.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is an American organisation which ensures ‘the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.’
The Image Awards state that they are a ‘multi-cultural awards show from an African American point of view.’
Noah who is the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show recently released his autobiography Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood.
The book has barely been in the market for 3 months but has been well received.
Noah’s book has been nominated in the Outstanding Literary Work – Biography/Autobiography category.
He is up against Taraji P Henson ( Around The Way Girl: A Memoir), Maurice White with Herb Powell (My Life with Earth Wind and Fire) amongst others.
There are 55 competitive categories from the fields of the motion picture to the Image Awards Hall of Fame.
The biggest nominees of the show are Beyonce with nine nominations, Nate Parker of The Birth of A Nation and Donald Glover of Atlanta have three nominations each for writing, acting and directing.
The show will be broadcast on the 11 of February 2017 they will be hosted by noted comedian and actor Anthony Anderson.
