Outspoken and controversial radio personality Gareth Cliff has come out guns blazing against President Jacob Zuma in the wake of a raging debate surrounding the Hawks’ investigation into Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
Cliff’s comments come after it emerged that Gordhan had been summoned to appear before the Hawks on Thursday about allegations related to his role in the formation and activities of the so-called “rogue unit” set up when he was head of the SA Revenue Service.
Gordhan, who has maintained that the setting-up of the unit was above board and had ministerial approval, said on Wednesday afternoon that he would not be complying with the summons as advised by his legal team.
Weighing in on the debate surrounding the issue, Cliff levelled accusations against Zuma claiming the president is trying to “escape with as much money as he can from state enterprises”.
“What is wrong with this guy. You know, he’s got this thing about state capture, his whole point, his whole purpose. Now he realises that power is starting to slip away from him, so he’s on a massive greed binge, and he’s trying to get as much money out of the system as he can,” Cliff said.
Cliff went on to state that the president realises that ‘power is slipping’ out of his control, and is under pressure from the ANC, which could result him wanting to “retire in some Arab country”.
“Mark these words, because this is what’s gonna happen: the president is gonna take every cent he can, he’s already moving it all offshore. I’m not sure how, I don’t know the details, but this is what I suspect is happening. This guy is busy raping the state-owned enterprises as we speak of every last cent of cash that he can,” Cliff claimed.
The radio jock went on to say he believed Zuma was also “enriching his family before he makes a run for it”.
“I reckon he sees he’s between a rock and a hard place, and he’s going to take as much as he can, and the Minister of Finance is a big obstacle in his way. He knows he’s got very little time to take what he can and get out,” Cliff claimed.
