Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) has brought smiles to the faces of underprivileged children and youth in South Africa with its second sold-out comedy benefit, Comedy Central Cares.
The charity auction was hugely successful with R450 000 raised for charity. The tie worn by Trevor Noah on his The Daily Show debut auctioned to an online bidder for 27,000 ZAR.
Other items sold off included a signed photograph of Lionel Messi, four nights’ accommodation for two people at the Tau Private Game Reserve, an hour in the studio live with Darren Simpson and the gang from 947’s Breakfast Express, a custom-made Marianne Fassler dress, a corporate gig by Goliath & Goliath and a shopping and personal styling experience with the fashion editor at Zando.
Evert van der Veer, Vice President, Comedy Central, Africa: “We really appreciate all those who were involved in making Comedy Central Cares such a success, and who gave of their time for free. These wonderful comedians didn’t only make the audience laugh – they will also bring smiles to the faces of the children who will benefit from this.”
