Stand-up comedian, presenter and actress Tumi Morake and Vanessa Frost are set to tickle the funny bone with sex tips in the new production Tease!
The theatre piece about a suburban salon that does not only treat hair but also focuses on sexual pleasures for women will debut at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
Morake and Frost portray friends Neo and Eva, stylists and therapists. The pair workshopped the show with Jose Domingos, who is also the director.
Morake said they wanted to tell the story of women from a woman’s point of view. She further said Tease! was inspired by a salon they both knew, that also sold sex toys.
“The show is different because of its tips and advice about enjoying sex as a woman and what makes women happy,” she said.
“Tease! is about intimate client knowledge and a growing understanding of what women (and men) want and need.
“It is about stylists who have seen an opportunity in the business of selling toys.”
Morake added that they both play multiple characters from the elderly Muslim woman and Jewish women who return weekly to have their hair set and sample new toys.
Frost said in a statement: “Even when you’re dealing with subjects from a comedic perspective, you can’t shy away from the hard truths. It is about finding the comedy in each of these moments while exploring the moments that don’t require comedy.”
Though Morake is better known as a comedian she’s also a theatre stalwart as writer, actress and activist.
Recently she displayed her versatility as a popular host of TV show Our Perfect Wedding. She warned that audiences at the festival would be introduced to some weird but interesting sex toys!
lTease! is on at Masonic Back Stage from today to July 9.bambalelep@sowetan.co.za
